Dr. Mark Holterman serves as a professor of surgery and pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he instructs medical students and surgical residents on the surgical care of infants and children. Beyond his work at the university, Mark Holterman, MD, supports the International Pediatric Specialists Alliance for the Children of VietNam (IPSAC-VN). The nonprofit organization focuses on enhancing health care activities and options for children in Vietnam with the help of volunteer clinicians and support personnel. Additionally, IPSAC volunteers will embark on a Vietnam mission to Ho Chi Minh City in 2018.
IPSAC missions are a collaboration with the organization’s Vietnamese colleagues, and participating clinical teams will engage in exchanges for program development, patient care, and workforce enhancement. Medical volunteers take up positions at several hospital sites across Vietnam, such as the Danang Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Kon Tum General Hospital, and the Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Their work will involve assisting with various programs and research endeavors. Mission objectives will also include the development of new programs and improving current ones involving clinical, educational, and research development activities.
The Ho Chi Minh City mission will take place from March 5-9, 2018, with IPSAC volunteers and personnel arriving in the city on March 3.
